Artificial Intelligence for Joint Communication and SENSing in Optical NEtworks

CORDIS · observation · Publication date unknown

Artificial Intelligence for Joint Communication and SENSing in Optical NEtworks Optical networks are crucial to modern society and the economy, forming the backbone of our advanced communication infrastructure. Currently, these networks are undergoing a transformative phase, driven by the demands – and needs – of increased and everywhere connectivity and real-time data acquisition for monitoring and performance enhancement. Both demands lead to system architectures that have the potential to be exploited in other contexts, thereby leveraging considerable value from the significant costs of installation. In particular, there is the potential to transform the telecommunications network into a globe-spanning distributed sensing system with applications ranging from earthquake, tsunami, and fires detection to infrastructure monitoring. Recent developments in the field highlighted the potent
