oNance REGENERATION aims to build a multidisciplinary research network bringing together complementary expertise in life sciences, bioengineering, medical-device development, computational modelling, artificial intelligence and Quantum Molecular Resonance (QMR) technologies. The project will develop reliable and sustainable in vitro models of healthy and aged bone tissue, treated with or without QMR, and will train a cohort of scientists and technologists in exploiting these models to increase knowledge on bone ageing, mechanobiology, response to physical stimulation and drug-related effects. Bone ageing reduces the quality of life of elderly people and creates a significant social and economic burden. Ageing bones fail more easily when challenged mechanically or exposed to toxicants or pollutants, and they may respond differently to drugs and physical stimuli compared with healthy bone. To personalise therapies and enable better preventive care for the elderly, it is essential to develop reliable human-based in vitro models of aged bone tissue, reducing dependence on animal models
